hmm
well, you're name would be "PaRu" I think... well, there's
obviously no direct translation of paul... so you'll need to just
make something up... like me

Re: hmm
I don't know the site you're speaking of, but I do know that if
you're looking for kanji for "Paul," you're out of luck. Japanese
does of course have the po sound,
but you're not going to find any word-initial instances of this in
kanji. You'll have to make do with either katakana, making it
|[, or go with a Japanese name based on the etymology of your
own. "Paul" means humble,
which would make your Japanese name "Ken" ( )

my name means "god's gracious gift" or something to that extent...
I think it's a decendant from john. but if there's a kanji for it,
then ok, but it better sound cool..... otherwise I'll just stick
with kame

My name has a Japanese equivalent (I even have a cool kanji for
it). The only thing is that it's one of those unisex names like
Akira and Yuki, and while there have been some male historical
figures with the name, the only other people I've met with the same
name are girls...

Re: XD
Paul, I don't know about Japanese, but it'd be easy enough to
give you a Chinese name. I've come across many Pauls and the Chinese
transliteration is always 'bao-luo' (bao 3rd-tone/luo
2nd-tone). Bao means 'to protect', 'to guard', 'to shelter' but
it can also mean 'to keep', or 'to care for', among other
things. Luo can mean 'to arrange or display over a large area' or
'thin silk' or 'net'. I'ts usually used for transliteration though,
especially as in 'Rome', 'Roman', etc. To make a proper Chinese
3-character name for someone you'd need the surname as well - you'd
find the character that sounds closest to your English surname and
use that as the family name. So if your English name was Paul Smith
your Chinese name would probably be Shr Bao-Luo, or if you were Paul
Johnson then it might be Jiang Bao-Luo, and so on (Chinese family
names always precede the given name). You wouldn't have to only
use these characters though - you could choose any you like for the
given name, but the Chinese family name you chose would have to be
phonetically similar to your English one. For example, my Chinese
family name is Lai (English: Lines), given to me by my first Chinese
teacher. End of boring linguistics lecture....

Re: yes
Yoichi is 'sun' and 'one' according to the Chinese characters on
one of the Ring vcds I saw. You'd probably need someone familiar
with Japanese to confirm this though - J or Clyde?

No wait! I made a mistake! Apparently it REALLY means, "destined to
become a washed-out ex-child actor living as gutter trash by the
time he's 16 years old". "..And addicted to crack".

No, just joking. Seriously though, his name means "I wish I'd gone
through puberty earlier so I could truly appreciate "zipping up"
Matsushima Nanako in Ring 1".
