Little help,
please
Here's my problem: I just got a bunch of CDs with Japanese MPGs on
them. Now, while I have Japanese support for my browser and I have a
Japanese input program, my basic Windows ME can't be switched to
read Japanese like the never versions. Whenever I put the CDs in my
drive, the files come up as "jibberish".mpg. Because of this, my
computer can't read them and gives me "file does not exist" type
messages. So what can I do to be able to view them?

I AM in Japan. Otherwise I'd pick up a newer version of Windows,
but the Japanese Windows isn't compatible with my US system.

Heh. Sorry, Al. Just couldn't resist it! Hmmm. Yeah, I've heard
that Me/2000 are pretty unaccepting of many formats, applications
and devices. 98 S.E is still the best one for my money
...
Honestly though, I'm afraid I really just don't know that
much about computers. Maybe Microsoft will have something for
download on their website to help your computer to accept it? If
there's no advice there, you can always email for personal
assistance, I guess. Umm, yeah. Sorry I can't be of much more help
than that. DAMN Microsoft!! (I sewar, if I had the money, I'd just
buy Apple for the rest of my dying days ..)

All I could find from Microsoft's official WinME site was a
Japanese program that lets me turn all of the menus for Internet
Explorer into Japanese. It said that it would install Japanese
support for Windows, but it never happened.

Well then Windows can go f*ck themselves right in their stupid
ears!! Umm, Kame will be at this post in about 1.5 hours, I think.
As he is the self-confessed "Mack-Daddy of HTML", I think it might
be worth a shot if you talked to him. He might just have a
solutuion. Either that, or talk to J - who deals with Japanese
software a LOT, I'm led to believe. Don't give up yet, bro!

Have you tried Windows Update site? I remember seeing the Japanese
modifier there. If not try http://www.zdnet.com/
in the downloads section..

Re: Little help,

Al, I've had a similar problem in the past. The mpeg filenames are
in Japanese, correct? Try this:
-Download the file from the
disk to your desktop -Rename the file something in
English
The computer should then be able to play them. Of
course, you'll have to rename everything something English and burn
them back onto disk in order to clear everything off your
desktop...
The Japanese entry program you're using, is it
Global IME? You might want to try that as it's a Microsoft file, and
will download all the fonts MS uses in Japanese. Then you'll want to
adjust the Regional Options in Control Panel and make sure Japanese
is checked.

Re: Little help,

Renaming and copying were the first things I tried, but I keep
getting a "path does not exist. File may not exist or have been
deleted" message. And despite having the various Japanese writing
and encoding programs, the "Japanese" option isn't available under
my regional settings. I guess I'll have to have a friend pick up
whatever passes for the newest version of Windows...
