I think the 1st Turtles movie was the

will be ... without honour!"
Oroku Saki Himato Yoshi
Splinter April O'neal "Danny", the weedy little redhead

I was in America when the Turtles movue came out, and maybe you
americans here can confirm this, but I heard that the actress who
played April O' Neal was involved in a car crash just afte they had
finished filming Turtles. I heard that she was ina taxi and the
ddriver was drunk and they crashed and she went into a coma. I was
young then, about 10, so this may all be total crap.

Eastman and Laird comics? Nice stuff. VERY dark. None of that "The
Foot are robots" sh*t like in the cartoons. Real people. Real
eviscerations.
I had a hardcover - my bro lost it. Damn. But
he gave me these old Ninja Turtle comics that gave detailed
instructions on ninjitsu. It was kewl. DEFINATELY not approved by
the Comics Code Authority. (I never knew there were so many veins in

My God, I cannot tell you just how much I hated the

over there - although last time I checked, they were calling them
"Time Rangers". Weird.
Hmm, I always preferred Lord Zed over
Rita. He made better monsters. Gee, I remember some magazine had

She looked pretty well put together too! Wish I bought that mag ...
Apparently that chick's Chinese, but moved to Japan. Good move, if

Re: >\
Yeah, I still pay a little bit of attention to Power Rangers--let's
face it, some of them are worth paying attention to; I'm not a major
fan of the early female rangers, but Patricia Ja Lee (Pink
Turbo/Space Ranger), Cerina Vincent (Yellow Galaxy Ranger, aka the
foreign exchange student who walks around naked all through "Not
Another Teen Movie"), and Jessica Rey (White Wild Force
Ranger)...yum...
To get the PR phenomenon in a nutshell: The
first 6 seasons of PR was one continuous timeline, with a couple of
sets of roster changes, and changing villains, but basicallly that
one team under Zordon and Alpha (ay-yi-yi, what nostalgia!). That
continuity culminated in the final episodes of "Power Rangers In
Space," which, for a kiddie series, was actually pretty well thought
out with some interesting Star-Warsian twists. It ended with Zordon
sacrificing himself, and with the all the bad guys from the previous
seasons being destroyed or (in the case of Rita and Zedd) reformed
into happy, normal human beings.
Since then, the franchise
has gotten more similar to the Japanese sentai series (the episodes
are still hacked from those shows to this day) in that each
succeeding year brings a different series, taking place in a brand
new locale with new rangers, new baddies, and a new premise, with
very little to tie it in with its predecessors, so that the new
series each have practically their own continuity. Just like the
sentai phenomenon in Japan (which has been going on for over 25
years), it shows no signs of stopping; the new series, "Power
Rangers: Ninja Storm" has just been announced. The stories have been
getting dumber since the franchise's zenith in PRiS, but the
Japanese are starting to tinker with the formula--this year's "Wild
Force" has interchangeable zords, and next year's "Ninja Storm" will
start out with only three Rangers.
As for why I'm a fount of
information about this...well, I've known people who've been
involved with the show over the years. I know the current Blue Wild
Force Ranger from high school, and we've dated a couple of girls in
common (no, not at the same time). Last I heard, he was romantically
linked with Jessica Rey, his fellow Ranger. Bastard.

Good news and
bad news
The good news is that April O'Neal, real name Judith Hoag, is alive
and well and condemned to making bad TV movies for the rest of her
career.
The bad news is that Thuy (two-ee) Trang, the
original Yellow Ranger, did in fact die last year in car accident
because she was not wearing her seatbelt. It occured on the highway;
Trang was slammed into the windshield at over 50mph when another
woman lost control of her vehicle and hit her. Trang was killed on
impact. Sadly, she only had four acting gigs during her career;
Power Rangers; she voiced her Power Rangers role for a video game;
as a character in the spy spoof "SPY HARD," and finally as a street
wise kung fu woman in "CROW: City of Angels"

I think that was true
only of the early seasons of Power Rangers with the late Thuy Trang
as the Yellow Ranger and Walter E. "Watch carefully and you'll see I
only have four fingers on one hand" Jones, an African-American, as
the Black Ranger. I guess someone noticed, so they flipped that
around later on, making the Asian the Black Ranger and the Black the
Yellow Ranger, and for a couple of wonderful seasons the yummiest
Ranger ever, Patricia Ja Lee, was the Pink Ranger. The current Asian
on board is the White (but with pink, uh, trim) Ranger, who's
Filipino.
Yeah, I got a bat for you to hold, baby...
Did you
know that while the Power Rangers have consistently had a female
yellow ranger, in the original Japanese Sentai series they're almost
always male? So in any sentai footage hacked into PR episodes, the
yellow ranger is usually skirtless and has an extra little bulge
where one isn't supposed to be (then again, even in the American
episodes, all the in-costume fighting is done with Asian men,
properly padded, in the female Ranger costumes...).

Thanks 4 the pic, Mike! Come to think of it, I guess it WAS dudes
in those skimpy outfits! I remember the original Blue Ranger could
kick higher than any other man I'd ever seen (brrrr!). But don'cha
think it's good that Japanese guys were in those suits? I mean, it's
never like the "extra lumpy bits" are gonna be too noticable with
otoko no Nihonjin. (sorry to the male Japanese readers out there,

Now if you had a black dude "posing" for one a' the

Kimberly packing such a huge bulge down there?"

Ya mean Jason David
Frank (as Tommy...how many first names do you need, anyway)? Yeah,
first he was the Green Ranger in the original run of MMPR, then the
White Tiger ranger during the "thunderzord" phase, then the Red
Ranger during the "Zeo" and early "Turbo" phase (why I keep chiming
in on this topic with further proof that I have no life, I don't
know).
I just recently got wind of an upcoming episode
reuniting most (9 of 12) of the Red Rangers in PR history, including
Jason Frank, which is good, because all those former Rangers need
the work.

pretty much any John Woo film lately!" Ha ha. I hadda laugh at that
one.
Yeah, I remember first hearing that Woo wanted to do a
darker, computerised Turtles movie about a year ago. And so little
had been said about it that I thought it was just another product
that'll never be made again. Like when they said Nic Cage was gonna
be Superman last year. Remember that? (thank God THAT one didn't go
through!) Like I said earlier on, for those of you who don't know
- the Ninja Turtles were full-on hardcore @#%$ with killings,
vein-cutting for disabling and even the occasional evisceration. I
had a graphic novel crammed with all their old stories, and one I'll
always remember was called "What goes around, comes around". Geezuz,
it wasn't the sort of material that a nine year old should have
read...
THIS one is the next "I've gotta see this" movie that
... err .. I've gotta see. I haven't felt this excited for a movie
since Xmen. My love for the Turtles has never diminished. And I
don't care what Kame says, I always liked Donatello.

Umm, wasn't Action Man a completely different action figure

Re: Action
Man
I remember back when I lived in the Commonwealth that around the
same time G.I. Joe (the vs. Cobra incarnation) came out, a similar
phenomenon called "Action Man: Action Force" debuted in the
UK...similar to G.I. Joe, but more of an international team, and
later subdivided into smaller "forces" with their own comic book
storylines--Z-Force, which was the infantry-type deal, S.A.S. Force,
who IIRC were the special operations division, The Q Force, who
operated in the oceans, and the Space Force (guess). Instead of
Cobra Commander and his minions, Action Force faced off against
Baron Ironblood (the same masked terrorist leader deal) and his Red
Shadows.
As G.I. Joe grew in appeal, the G.I. Joe line was
incorporated into Action Force in the U.K., and the original Action
Force concepts were eventually phased out until Action Force was
little more than the British name for G.I.Joe.
As for how the
new Action Man (which, IIRC, was a cel-animated cartoon series in
the mid-90's before it became a CGI series and toy line at the turn
of the century) is related to Action Force and G.I. Joe, I don't
know. If you guys remember, when G.I. Joe vs. Cobra died out in the
mid '90s, the G.I. Joe brand reverted back to its original (as in,
back in the 60's) form of big dress-up dolls with accessories.
Action Force probably went through the same thing, and spun off the
current "Action Man" line from there, eventually making its way over
here in the States.

I may be the Ring guru, but in terms of sheer obscure/arcane
knowledge, I pale in comparison to forum members mikejonas and Mr.
