Gainax and FLCL
aka FuriKuri (Tsurumaki Kazuya)
This masterpiece of animated wackiness was never mentioned here;
it's my duty to do so.
If you have seen it, what do you think
of it? I'm interested because I personally love it, and I'm a little
worried about that.
(Not that I think there is something rong
with it, but I've heard very few opinions of it...from regular human
beings at least.)

It's not "rong" to love a good thing ^.~
FLCL is one of my
all-time favorite series. It's got everything a good series should
have- comedy, drama, wackiness, suspense, lovable characters (Kanchi
is the bestest mech ever! *-*), and a killer soundtrack (all hail
the pillows).
I only wish they had decided to make a movie
too. There's so much I want to know about Rahal and her
"relationship" with Atomosk (like is it true that she really loves
him, or is she just being a power hungry b*tch?)
That and I
believe it is single-handedly responsible for the current influx of
Vespas here in Dallas.. u.u

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure if Atomusuku was a "someone" or a
"something", because "it" shifted from Kanchi to Naota, and then
"it" took off on it's own...(Atomusuku in my opinion os the
personification of the power everyone seeks, when it left Naota, he
changed to a little boy again, with a boy's behaviour. Atomusuku =
adolescence/ adulthood/ sexual awakening. "Strong stuff", "Stud",
"Sour drinks", "Spicy food", etc. That's why Haruko is always
hitting on Naota and arousing him; she wants to get "it" out of him,
or to use his head to teleport "Atomusuku")
Everything
in FLCL has a sexual connotation, have you noticed...? They play a
lot with double-sense, or triple-sense of everything!

I gave up trying to work out what was going on and just enjoy the
sheer brilliance of the series... favourite scenes anyone?.. mine
would have to be the bit set to 'crazy sunshine', batting the
satellite back into orbit.. If i ever see a sequence in anime more
amazing than that, I'll combust or something.. aaaah, haruko.. the
anime obsessed dad.. mamimi.. her cat.. the eyebrows.. what a
series! Anyone know if a second volume of the manga came out? I have
#1...
.. and I'm sure i mentioned flcl in some anime thread
here a while ago.. maybe.. very briefly..

Atomusuku, notice the cat...

Despite being a huge Gainax fan, I really didn't like FLCL. I think
watching Excel Saga before it spoiled me. I do, however, dig the
soundtrack, provided by the last true old school rockers "The
Pillows."

I love FLCL. I have my fansubs, but eagerly await the very
delayed DVDs. I'm just glad I bought the OST and artbook. Wish I'd
bought the action figures though. I also love GAINAX's new show,
Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai.

I never really looked at is as Atomosk= "adulthood"... but now you
mention it, it's not a bad theory at all.
My abosolute,
hands-down favorite scene in FLCL is when Mamimi follows the "Black
Angel" Kanchi to the abandoned schoolhouse... (with the beautiful
"Hybrid Rainbow").. it's one of the most beautiful, most expressive
animated scenes I've ever seen.
