Comic
Books
So, I've heard comic book references from a couple of people in the
group. Kinda suprising since after Marvel crashed the business in
94-96 I've seen less and less fans who can afford to collect. So
what is your favorite series? Who is your favorite character(s)?
Your favorite crossover? Your favorite artist? Your favorite What
If? Be it Marvel, Dark Horse, DC, Vertigo, Image,
whatever!
Narusegawas comic pics...
Favorite series:A
toss up between Ghost Rider and Spawn Favorite character: Lobo
(you fraggin bastiches!!) Favorite artist: Bisley Favorite
crossover: Midnight suns Favorite What if: What if the Silver
Surfer stole the infinity gauntlet!!
So im a pretty well
rounded fan. I like a little of everything. I love Vertigo's Animal
Man, Marvels X-men, DC's Batman and Lobo, Image's Spawn and Maxx
series, I also like the Verotik label that Glen Danzig produces.

ahh comic books wish I'd kept em! worth a fortune now! ok my
picks.... fave series: Strontium Dogs (2000AD) fave character:
hmmm hard to choose between The Crow and Revere so I'll pick em both
fave artist: Simon Bisley for me too
fave crossover : well...not really a crossover seeing as they
came from the same comic but I did love Johnny Alpha appearing in
Judge Dredd Megazine I couldn't think of a "what if" so heres a
"why doesn't": why doesn't Spiderman shoot webs from his ass like a
real spider??

Re: Comic

"Battle Royale" notwithstanding, I haven't bought a comic book
since the first couple of issues of "Generation X" way back when,
and even before that, I wasn't much of a buyer--I'd be the kind
who'd spend an afternoon at the comic book store catching up on what
was going on, but rarely bought anything.
As a kid I bought
reprints of "Astonishing Tales" and that sort of stuff (NoMan! Iron
Maiden! Dynamo!), along with issues of Battle (later "Battle/Action
Force") and 2000A.D. (I was very into Judge Dredd and Rogue
Trooper). Once I came to America, I started a collection of G.I. Joe
comics (starting with #49, when Serpentor was introduced--I was
bowled away by the thought of Cobra Commander being deposed); when I
outgrew that, I schooled myself on the Marvel Universe through the
paperback editions of the "Official Handbook," developed an
obsession for Kitty Pryde, bought the early issues of "Excalibur" (I
liked how it wasn't too tied-in to the plotlines of the other
X-titles) but lost interest after the Cross-Time Caper.

Re: Comic

Favorite series:USED to be Spiderman - you know? When he was
actually FUNNY? Well I assume we're not talking about Japanese manga
here - so I'd have to go with the Xmen comics of the 70's (when
Nightcrawler was more "demon" than "swashbuckler"). Most recent
comic is Crimson.
Favorite character: Wolverine was kewl. But
I quite like Deadpool. Favorite artist: Was there ever any doubt?
Joe Madueira. Favorite crossover: Hulk vs The Pitt. I like dark
storylines ...
Favorite What if: Too many to mention. I wish they had What
if's again. Some more memorable ones include: What if Wolverine
became lord of the vampires? What if Spiderman kept his six
arms? What if ... ummm ... the one where Wolvy goes feral, and
the Xmen hunt him down. They trap his arm in a beartrap-like thingy,
and Cyclops coms to kill him. But when he gets there, he reels back
in horror to see that Wolvy gnawed off his own hand rather than be
caught/killed. YESSSSSS!!! Just like a wild animal! You rock, Dog
Boy!!

Hey Mike. Yeah, I was big on Excalibur too. I've got every issue
from one to 100. But it just stopped being interesting. The aliens
popping up all the time made it a bit too "cutesy". Me liked Kitty
Pryde too. But I just couldn't bring myself to buying any more
issues after a while - Alan Davis' drawing style went really weird.
Everybody's faces seemed twice as long as normal - it looked
stupid.
Oh, my prize comic? I've got a few, but I have
Amazing Spiderman #64 (mid 60's) I have a Fantasitc Four one too. I
forget which number, but it's when they all first meet the Inhumans.
In other words, it's O-L-D!

my fav
comic
I love Comic books, I don't collect any of the Marvel stuff, but I
still like it. I'm more of a fan of 'out there' stuff, most of it by
Slave Labor. My favourite is a series called Lenore (see below). It
is a very spooky comic done in a Tim Burton style and has been
commended by the man himself. I used to post on the Lenore message
board all the time a few years ago, but stopped because it was
bitchy and mean, a really nasty site, not like this one. I haven't
seen even a fraction of the nastiness that goes on there, here. Yay,
you guys Rock!
Favorite series:Lenore Favorite character:
Ragamuffin the Vampire Scourge Favorite artist: Roman
Dirge Favorite crossover: There hasn't been one Favorite What
if: Lenore found out she really did love Mr Gosh?
I'll try
again to post a picture, if I don't succeed can someone please help
me as to where I am going
wrong?

I tend to buy the specific stories, and then only when they come
out in trade paperback. I thought the Preacher series was just
astounding, like most of Alan Moore's stuff (From Hell, League of
Extraordinary Gentlemen, his earlier stuff like V for Vendetta).
I've never really dug the Marvel/DC stuff, sorry.
Does anyone
know if Garth Ennis' Bigger Dicks is any good. I bought Just a
Pilgrim and was really disappointed - it was like something he's
thrown together during an off day whilst writing Preacher!

Add the letter "g" to the very end of the filename (make it .jpg)
and that'll do it. Also be sure you're using the "image"

Oh yeah, and fave comics were Grendel, Mage (Hero
Discovered), Watchmen, V for Vendetta, JLA circa 88-90,
Hellraiser.
Fave artists... Ted McKeever, Alex Ross, Itou
Junji, John Romita jr's stuff during the 80s X-Men.

Haven't forgotten about either of 'em. While Kirby was the man when
it came to creating characters, I was never fond of his comic style
(huge heads with huger, chiseled jaws). Ditto for Romita sr. No
disrespect to either, because I do respect
them, I'm just not a fan of their artwork.

I know, J - but that's what made 'em so cool! The whole comic book
was like an entire acid trip! I love those chiseled heads! Every
character looked like he came from Easter Island!! I remember
watching on a tv program once that the reason Kirby's styling went
so obscure like that was because he had deadlines to meet on drawing
about 5 different comic lines at the one time. Needless to say, he
was flat-out 24-7, and the "warped" faces were created actually by
his hand cramps from over-drawing all the time. Omoshireeee~!
(Tokyou ben)
Whoops! I'd better shut up now. I'm beginning to
sound like "The Glass Man".

I'm kind of new to the whole comic thing so I'm a little behind,
and cause I'm so poor I just go out and buy all the trade paperbacks
instead of getting the individual comics (although my sister does
have all of Wolverine and Electra illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano
which is really, really beautiful.)
Favourite Series:
Er...Preacher (it's the only one I've managed to read all of)
although Outthere and Battle Chasers were good. Favourite
Character: Cassidy. Favourite Artist: Bisley (fictional),
Madueira (real) Favourite Crossover: Fantastic Four Vs. Spiderman
(Chris Bailey is the MAN!) Favourite What If: Um....Capcom teamed
up with Marvel to do a comic. That'd be good...

Re: Comic
Books
When I was younger I worshipped and learned a lot of my
vocabulary and some writing structure from Chris Claremont's first
run on Uncanny X-Men. When he left the books went to absolute @#%$
and I stayed away for years, until very recently. Grant Morrison has
made the X-Men fresh and new again and he, along with Peter
Milligan/Mike Allred on the amazing new X-Statix and Claremont on
X-Treme X-Men (which has been shaky, as Claremont's style has not
aged well, but the book is improving and so is he) , have made me do
the impossible:start reading the X-Men again.
I am a longtime
fan of The Legion of Super-Heroes, particularly Keith Giffen's late
'80s 'volume 4' run on it, and the early stuff post-"Zero Hour" with
Mark Waid. The new title is okay and has some good ideas, but is too
gimmicky and trying way too hard to be the mid-'90s X-Men -- not a
good idea.
I love Frank Miller's Daredevil run, which I've
been picking up in TPB, and I love his Batman:Year One, and of
course The Dark Knight Returns, and yes, even Dark Knight Strikes
Back. I also really dig Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Batman work, as
well as their new work on Daredevil.
I love Alan Moore's
Watchmen and From Hell, but then who doesn't?
Pretty standard
fare, I guess. I keep promising I'll read Transmetropolitan, and I
just picked up a TPB of Morrison's Animal Man. I've sort of fallen
into comics again for the first time in years, and I'm trying some
new stuff.

Hmm ... that reminds me, I'm REALLY keen to see the

course I'm referring to Eric Bana. Actually, I didn't much like Bana
at first. He was in this comedy show we had (SORT of like Saturday

own very-short-lived tv show. It was even unfunnier.
But then
he made "Chopper" and everything's been kewl for him ever since. So
