Anyone here a
geek?
Once upon a time, when I was at school, I was a geek. Not the cool
comic book reading geek I am now, but one of those Sci Fi jobbies
...uggghhhh I shudder to remember.
Anyway, while being this
geek, I developed a passion for a little T.V. show that had just
come out at the time called The X Files. As geeks do I proceeded to
collect all I could, the manga comics (issue 1(the original issue
1 - 24, in mint condition), the videos 1-5 (complete with Limited
Edition Forensic Evidence box and the Making of the X Files vid),
Special magazines, i.e. Fortean Times and other geektastic reads
...actually, no, I still really like Fortean Times, I take the
geektastic bit back. the first issue of a mag called X-Pose, a
magazine devoted to the X Files and all things geek.
Cut a
long story short, I want to sell it all, the lot. So the question I
am asking you all is, "Is anyone here geeky enough to know just how
much it would all be worth?" I'm not looking to sell it here or
anything dodgy like that, I just want an honest valuation if anyone
has one. Last time I heard, issue 1 of the Manga comic was worth
£40, but that was 7 years ago, it could have gone either way in
price now.
Now I look utterly ridiculous in all your eyes,
and any cool, or credability I had here has gone as quickly as the
life of a slug that has entered my ferrets domain, I shall
go. I'll just let you all know though, that just because I have
posted this geeky mail here, it doesn't mean I think you are all
geeks. Maybe some of you are and like it, thats cool, but to the
people who aren't -"I'm not saying you are a geek!"

>) I'm a geek! or maybe nerd... hmm, I'm a bad geek if I am
one.... I get like high scores on everything (the only B's I get are
from me being lazy.. hehehe), like scifi and the whatnot, but never
really commited to geekhood with all the action figures and obsesive
stuff like that. I do know a krap load about comps and am pretty
much the mack-daddy of html (tryin to learn script now)... so in
that sense I'm geeky. but then again, I've always had this odd
popularity... guess I'm just a nice guy, but dang! how do all these
ppl know me from school? oh well...
so there you have it! a
half geek on the half shell!

Ha ha!! Yeah - especially the ones where he lies seductively on a

I'm a Ringeek right now. I used to be an Evageek for a long time,
but I felt ridiculous when Anno said that to me at the end of the
series. And it was worse even in the movie... But my geekness is
always shifting. What next...?

Re: Mariah, my

I used to love the Eva too. But that ending .. THAT ENDING!!!
Nooooooooo~!!!!! Jeezuz, what a way to turn off the fans. It's hard
to have good memories of that show when you see an ending like that.
Pity too, 'cause there was nothing cooler than watching the Eva's
hide and seek around the city whenever an angel was coming by. You
know one of my favourite scenes of all time from Eva? Apart from the
chance to see Asuka or Misato's boossies? It was when Shinji and
Asuka had to perfectly synchronise their fighting to beat the
duplicating angel (forgot which #) - all without sound effects exept
for the operetic movement playing. Now THAT was some seriously
talented story-telling!
I also liked the episode names - like
out of a haiku book. "Unfamiliar ceiling". Kewlness.

That was #9... "Both of you, dance like you want to win!" That
was the title for the second part. Can't remember the title for the
first, though...

Aoi kaze ga
ima...
Whew! Tough crowd!! I'm obviously out of my league here, and I most
humbly bow and scrape my way backards out the door.
Oh, can I ask then? The 13th angel - the queer little dude? What was
his name again? I liked that kid - he seemed like the only nice
fella outta the whole bunch. (even if it WAS his objective to
destroy mankind!)
"Your heart is delicate, like glass. You
have won my empathy." "What?" "I'm telling you I love
you".
That show had some of the best writing I've
ever heard - anime OR live action.

It was the 17th angel, in fact. Nagisa Kaworu (Tabris). That was
a monumental script and voice acting(the best)...Not Kaworu's in
particular, but the whole cast.

Don't ask more about Eva. It gives me strange feelings...
kimochi waruuuui... And I'm starting to look like a
geek... Please don't make spill out any more detailed info on the
series.

Oh, I dunno! You still have a LOOOOONG way to go before you reach
the fanboy levels of the "Mikey Morphin' Jonas Ranger".
Whup! 17 angels you say? Well, sounds like a good excuse for me
to rent the videos again! Yaaaaaaaayy!!! (I only own 1 & 2 on
tape). I know how you feel about people "discovering" how deep your
roots run on one particular subject. That'd be with with:
a)
The Uncanny X-Men b) Spiderman q) Monty Python's Flying
Circus, and.. m) Ranma.

Oh well. geek it is. Anyone who enters my little abode sees wall to

immediately. (So, Bad One, do your ferrets hide action figure
weaponry also? Nothing cuter than a white ferret carrying a Spawn
Angela spear around the house)

Six Feet Under is the best thing I've seen on TV for a long bloody
time. Nate is DA MAN!!
Geekyness eh?
1. I've played
and completed all the Alex Kidd games in the space of one day. In
order. 2. I've spent a whole summer playing Final Fantasy
1-6 3. I've seen every episode of the X Files. 4. I'm
currently playing every Phantasy Star game. In order. 5. I have
long conversations with people in comics shops and Forbidden Planet
about Akira, Japanese horror, Resident Evil, Parasyte, Lone Wolf and
Cub and Blade of The Immortal and discuss the merits of story
continuity in comics and whether it was a good idea or not. (I like
it myself.)
I think I'm sufficiently geeky. But I still have
a social life, so the path to ultimate geekdom is still a long way
off....

Comics
Yeah. Can you believe they slaughtered 30+ years of continuity in
the Spiderman comics by "bringing back" Norman Osbourn? And for
WHAT? A quick buck?? F*CK THAT!!! The death of Norman Osbourne was
SACRED! It taught Spidey the REAL "responsibility" schtick and all,
and it was just kewl to see his arch nemesis skewered right after he
killed Gwen Stacey - who, by the way, they also reintroduced. Gawd,
I hate Marvel's continuity factor. Comics have no sense of worth if
death has no meaning. That's why life is so important. Can't
comics reflect life for once?

Re:

Disco, you're right there. If you get too many stupid long story
arcs, you end up getting annoying inconsistencies (like Tenchi Muyo
in which there are sooo many different plots it seems to have
disappeared up its own arse). And the more I think about it, having
lots of one offs and one shots is kind of a good idea.
