samara and
sadako: meaning of the names
I think these names were deliberately chosen to portray the
restless spirit as both death and life incarnate, a force so
powerful and threatening that it must look evil. but also the
coming eventual judgement of humanity. for the name samara: The
Appointment in Samara By Somerset Maugham
A certain
merchant in Baghdad sent his servant to the market to buy some
provisions. A little while later, the servant returned looking white
in the face. In a trembling voice he said, "Just now in the market
place I was jostled by a man in the crowd, and when I turned I saw
it was Mr. Death. He looked at me and made a threatening gesture.
Please lend me your horse, because I want to go to Samara where Mr.
Death will not be able to find me." The merchant agreed and lent the
scared man his horse. The servant mounted the horse and rode away as
fast as the animal could gallop. Later that day, the merchant went
down to the market place and saw Mr. Death standing in the crowd. He
approached him and said, "Why did you make a threatening gesture to
my servant when you saw him this morning?" "That was not a
threatening gesture," said Mr. Death. "It was only a start of
surprise. I was astonished to see him in Baghdad, because I have an
appointment with him tonight in Samara."
for the name
sadako: Sadako, a survivor of the atomic bomb which destroyed
Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, is diagnosed with leukemia. She tries
to make a thousand paper cranes so she can fulfill the legend that
says a thousand paper cranes will bring her long life. She dies
after completing 644 cranes. Themes: perseverance, hope,
grief. another little girl destroyed by inhumanity.
both
figures portray the themes of death, grief, and a restless soul
that eventually judges all humanity. these names cant be a
coincidence.....
Just fixing the topic spelling...it was

Interesting! The Appointment in Samara story is one of my favorite
little fables, and I didn't even make the connection...

Sadako
The character that appears in the reptile eye on the Sadako video
says "Sada," or "chaste." In Japan, most girl's names end with
either -mi or -ko. I don't remember what -mi means, but -ko means
"child." So Sadako is the "chaste child." (Note her attire of solid
white; not only is white a symbol of purity, but the particular
clothes that Sadako adorns while coming out of the well are funeral
garments)

talk about
creepy....
I just checked out babynameworld.com and according to them, samara
means "guarded by God" among other things. Geez, if the big man is
on her side then we've got no chance.

my perpetual
repost.
.: Name Meanings US Ring Samara: (Hebrew) ruled by God
Anna: (English, etc) graceful : Latinate form of (Hebrew)
Hannah. Morgan (as a surname): (Welsh) from the edge of the sea
Morgan (the horse breed): is easily recognized by his proud
carriage, upright graceful neck, and distinctive head with
expressive eyes. The Morgan horse agreeably adapts to his owner's
life style.
Japanese Ring (kanji in shift-JIS code)
Sadako ’åŽq: Righteous/chaste child (for those that have seen
the Japanese movie, the first kanji, ’å, is what you see in the eye
in the cursed video) Shizuko Žu’ÃŽq:motive/intent + haven +
child Yamamura ŽR‘º: Mountain village
Hopefully some of
this is helpful to someone. I found the Morgan horse breed
information a while back when I was trying to remember the url to
themorganranch.com, and wasn't terribly surprised to find that
Morgan horses are brown and -surprise- look just like the horses in
the US Ring trailer and 'cursed video.'
Definitions of
Samara: noun: a winged often one-seed indehiscent fruit as of
the ash or elm or maple (the tree in the movie is indeed a japanese
maple.) name: A female given name (rare: 1 in 50000 females;
popularity rank in the U.S.: #2441) name: A surname (very rare:
popularity rank in the U.S.: #78802)
Definitions of Morgan:
(I left in the results that seemed relevant to The Ring) noun:
an American breed of small compact saddle horses noun: American
biologist who formulated the chromosome theory of heredity
(1866-1945) name: A surname (very common: 1 in 847 families;
popularity rank in the U.S.: #57)
