possibilities in
the remake's sequel
As Im sure many agree, I'd much prefer something new to another
remake... they've built their own view of the ring reality, and I'd
like to see that view widened. That said, given my assumptions on
Samara's character and her abilities (see previous reply, in 'Why is
samara evil?') along with the beautifully ambiguous ending; does
anyone else feel that this could lead to a world of the sort
glimpsed in loop? Somehow Im invisioning post apocolyptic horror
now, a world filled with Samara Clones; and a few scattered
communities that have cast off all technology to stay safe. Granted
its a far cry from the original ambience, I can invision a lot of
fun circumstances. The least bit being the inherrent technophobia,
and seeing what Samara might do to get at the few humans who are
struggling on in a world filled with her vengeance.

i can almost see two races of people in a continum like this: the
infected and those that refuse samara's contact. i'd love a loop
movie, but to jump from ring to loop would be a big, huge step and i
don't think it would be well received. it would be better to make it
at least the third movie in the series.. without the extra male
dna, it would be pretty hard to explain the impregnation and
subsequent clones..

you could always
take a cue from the direct sequel..
and go off on a scientific tangent, investigating just what samara
is. There is a lot of detective work to be had there, starting with
interviewing those that had medical access to her living self. Sure
sounds like an adequate place to introduce her (japanese book
tie-in) questionable sex.

Seeing how successful the Ring remake has been, I don't think
they'll want to stray from it.
They did make it different
enough that their sequel could be interesting, and even more
different.

I can see a remake. Hopefully it would answer some of the many
questions I have, but it would probably raise just as many. I
think the sequel would be more terrifying. If you ask me, a
prequel is more in order than a sequel.

Re:

Unlike the original ringu, there -really- isn't much room for a
prequel to the remake. The only possibility I see is running off on
a village of the damned atmosphere, to see samara's early childhood
and just what exactly she did to the islanders..

re:

I think there is more room for a prequel here. There is very little
explanation as to where Samara came from, and how she got her
powers. I think a prequel could be about Anna and what she did to
get Samara.

Re: re:

I think they may be planning a sequel. When Noah's
girlfriend arrives at his apartment just after he is killed, this
seems like a set-up, otherwise this scene in the movie serves
absolutely no function at all

re:

imo, that'd be a very un-ring thing to do... while ring 0 shed some
light on who sadako was, they still left a bit of a mystery as to
her actual origins. Do we seriously need to be spoonfed such
concrete backstory? part of the charm of the series is it's mystery;
Id rather be given clues and take part in the myth, than rely on
textbook answers.

Oh I guess Rachel. I suppose it would be nice to know if it is the
fertility drug, europeon voodoo, or perhaps milkman theory. Maybe
some guy used Richard's wife with or without her permission I know
not

re:
prequel
I agree that a prequel wouldn't be a good idea. Many theories have
been given as to Samara's origins (as shown through some of the
previous posts on this topic).
If a full explanation is ever
given, I fear that many of us wouldn't be satisfied with the
writer's interpretation.
I would rather that her origins be
left up to one's imagination.
Unless somebody's willing to
convince me otherwise. I'm open to any suggestions :P

Re: re:

It's better left unsolved. People fear what they don't
understand, they say. So if we knew everything about her, she
wouldn't be as scary.
Example, look at Hellraiser 3. They
show you Pinhead's origin and it totally sucked.

Aren't you
curious what's on this tape? No.
Read my subject again.
You think there's no room for a
prequel? What about the first videotape? (what first videotape?
Katie's?) No. The one that Richard Morgan enountered sometime in the
80's or so...
Why not tell the story again with a different
plot? Maybe it would lose some of it's charm being retold away from
the cannon continuity, but I think a prequel with Mr. Morgan
actively trying to stop the post-mortem revenge of his daughter
would be great and
an origianl direction to take The Ring franchise in.

Mayhaps interesting but I am slightly afraid it will turn away fans
rather then bring in new ones. Highlander 2 and Highlander the
animated series was good for me but for most they were disgusted at
new directions and fresh ideas.

A prequel would be nice but only if it didn't destroy the
pre-existing mystique. I think a prequel would be nice if they
wanted to do a television tie in special, like they sorta did with
the Blair Witch Project on the SciFi channel. That and they would
have to do it soon if they wanna keep Daviegh in the role, she ain't
gonna stay little forever.
