just a bit
confused
okay, so Samara grew up of the farm with the horses and everything.
But the well that she was killed at was underneath the cabin. The
cabin and the farm werent very near each other were they? did
Samaras mother kill her while they were on some vacation or what?
Maybe i wasnt paying enough attention when i watched the movie and
the answers obvious, but can someone fill me in?

Yeah, you
weren't paying attention...
The well wasn't on the island, it was on the mainland. It wasn't
explained, but it appears that the land belonged to Morgans, so it
may have been a retreat or somewhere they vacationed. It appears
that the land was sold, and a cabin built on top of the well,
presumably to hide it.

Re: Yeah, you

Why go to the trouble of building a cabin over the well to conceal
it? Why not destroy the outer rocks, throw them in the well, and
fill it in with dirt? I mean, there was even space under the cabin
to stand. They didn't flatten out the well's outer rim and build a
cabin. They built the cabin above the well. Why?
What would
have been cool, and better in my opinion, was if the well's outer
rim was destroyed, and the area flattened out, and then the cabin
was built over the hole. How freaky would it have been if Noah
smashed through the floorboards, only to stare down into the gaping
hole of the *former*
well.

Cabin on
Well
Maybe the Morgans owned the cabins, too? They weren't making any
money off of horse breeding anymore. Perhaps Samara kept them from
destroying the well...

Re: Yeah, you

I think you can chalk this one up to keeping the remake faithful to
the original (that, and dirt tumbling down an opening doesn't quite
look like a ring). In that case, the well was also in a crawlspace
beneath the resort cabin.
The two do differ in some ways:
Noah and Rachel enter the crawlspace from above after being guided
there by those marbles or whatever they were; Ryuji and Reiko enter
the space from the side, based on their hunches and probably some of
Ryuji's sixth sense. Rachel is knocked into the well by the TV,
while in the original, Ryuji and then Reiko climb into the well to
pull water out of of it, hoping that it would help them find the
body. The crucial "psychic flashbacks" also happen at different
points--Rachel when she appears to be grabbed by Samara, and Reiko
when she and Ryuji touch the cover sealing the well.

I think flashback at touching well cover sounds a lot more
reasonable

Quote: Why go to the trouble of building a cabin over the well to

I'm guessing (and cobbling from others ideas)
that the Morgans originally owned the land with the well. (The
presence of the horses on the ridge suggests that). We know that
Anna was torn about killing Samara. It could be that in Anna's
conflicted mind she saw the well not only as a place of concealment
of the body, but also as a memorial to the child she (once) loved.
Whereas a rational person may not have been against destroying the
well to conceal the crime, I suspect that the sentimental/deranged
side of Anna caused conditions to be imposed on the sale of the
land: that the new owner would not disturb this monument of special
and secret significance.

Re: Well
question
I tend to favor the theory that the Morgans owned the land, and
built the cabins (whether he still owned it at the time the movie
was set, I don't know). I don't believe that building the cabin over
the well was any kind of memorial, or that it could have been filled
in/ destroyed in anyway.
Samara had at least partial control
over what her parents decided to do with that well.

That's what I'm talkin'
about... whoever built the cabin probably had some guidance from
beyond (or below)

Beyond being below is not upon. Upon being beyond is not below. Or,
Beyond being upon and below is below and upon. In the end,
Beyond is always beyond, no matter what's below.

Another thing i'm confused about is Katie's death.. Is she in her
room when she dies or downstairs? And also how could Becca see
Samara cause wasn't she upstairs when Katie was killed or vice
versa? I wasn't paying much attention during this part..If someone
could clarify this it would be appreciated

Re: beyond the

That suggests she was dying as she went into the closet, I guess.
Or she tried to run away half dead, when Samara catched her in the
closet, to finish her. (Is this the same...?
) Or because finding her corpse in the closet results in a very
shocking situation, thus sacrificing continuity?

Re: beyond the

Katie's body is found in her bedroom closet.
We don't know
where becca is during this whole thing because she disappears when
Katie is tending to the TV turning off and on. I am assuming she is
upstairs, because when katie gets freaked out she runs upstairs
looking for Becca...and I think when Katie sees the water on the
floor she calls out to becca. So Katie, at least, thinks Becca is
upstairs.
Also, Becca didn't see the video tape, but when we
visit her in the mental hospital, it is clear that she has been
"touched" by Samara. This lends itself to the idea that Becca was
upstairs and had some sort of face-to-face with
Samara.

also the room is upstairs, they come downstairs, its 95% identical
to the house in the original ringu. (finally got to see it) and
she calls out to becca on her way upstairs. and there is no answer.
presumably she is scared shiteless in a corner of the room.

Re: beyond the

in the original, the "friend" (i can't remember her name) had to
use the bathroom. i believe the remake is the same and i think we
can assume that becca was the first to find her friend in the
closet. eventhough, the mother says that she found her. the friend
had to go crazy from something and since sadako/samara kill almost
instantly, i doubt that the friend saw samara.
to answer your
question...i think that becca was downstairs in the bathroom and
katie went upstairs to her room.....becca found her shortly
thereafter in the closet.
