4 Times so
far
I was going for a 5th viewing this past Saturday, but the show was
sold out. My companions demanded horror, so we ended up in Ghost
Ship instead (we weren't the only ones doing this, either). It
became quickly obvious why Ghost Ship sunk fast, while The Ring is
100 mil and counting.

2 times,
but...
I've seen it only twice. If i see it again, the thrill of seeing
the movie will be gone. I have seen the smaara/noah scene and the
cursed video 15 hundred times, however (thanks to slowburn for this!
)
This is Samara?!

Ooh! I've seen it 8 times and I'm going again this Sunday! I don't
care if I've contributed $60 to the pathetic excuse for a theater we
have here!

I've seen it 3 times.
I'm less skeered each time I go. It's
also lots of fun to go with someone who hasn't seen it, too!!

OOH, yes! I agree with Rachael! It is so fun to go see it with a
person who hasn't seen it, especially people who are easily scared.
Yes, I know, I'm a sadistic loon...but then again, that's not TOO
uncommon....

I've only seen it four times in the
theatre, but I see it everytime I close my eyes. Does that count?

Re: heh
Okay, that does it! The rip suxx and I need a refresher - so I'm
going to the theater for #3.
*Edit*
Okay, I'm back
from seeing it again and I will tell you this:
The theater
was only about 1/8 full. Some teens in the front were making light
of Katie's fake choking and were snickering loudly at the TV coming
on and the fridge door opening. But they shut the fook up at Katie's
death scene -- and were quiet as church mice for the remainder of
the film. I always sit in the back and could see that couples were
holding onto each other much more tightly and urgently than is
usual.
Heh. After so many weeks of release, Samara still gets
her much deserved RESPECT.
Did I mention that, while she's
interesting and not bad-looking, Naomi Watts is at best a mediocre
actress? It really became apparent during the third viewing.

Re: heh
I haven't seen it on the big screen yet - only a crappy VCD copy
that a 'friend' persuaded me to watch. It opens here (Taiwan) on
Dec. 6, so I'll definitely be going to the midnight showing. I'll
probably see it more than once or twice, if I can put up with some
of the more irritating aspects of the film.
I agree with you
about Naomi Watts, Inteferon. Her performance, while adequate,
doesn't come close to that of Matsushima Nanako in the original.
Neither did any of the other performances, come to think of it,
though perhaps I'll appreciate it more at the cinema.
I
thought showing Samara's face at the end was a mistake. It was ugly,
and it was grotesque, but there wasn't anything terrifying about it.
I feel it would have been far more effective if they'd left it up to
the viewer's imagination, and just shown a glimpse. They even showed
it in the trailer, for christsakes!

7 times for
me
I've gone 7 times exactly for the theaters, each time with another
"friend". Then I've had to take them with someone else to clear
them... etc... etc...

Although I agree that naomi's performance was not
perfect, it was certainly above mediocre. She won't get an oscar
because of this film (she should have because of Mulholland Drive
but that's beside the point). She is a very capable and excellent
actress. If I was the director, I would have gotten rid of all the
sarcastic jokes and redone the whole ending when Rachel get's back
to her condo from Noah's.
Whatever...you all know what I
think of Nanako. Perhaps you would have liked Rachel to be more
weepy, sobby, and a bit more sluggish to resemble Reiko. Nah man.
Nanako sucks big time!!! She can't act at all and has not energy.
She looks as lazy as a donkey. I was utterly dissapointed because of
her second class acting. It is a freaking movie, not a soap opera
damnit. I enjoyed Ringu though because Sanada Hiroyuki was in it. He
is an excellent actor and made it feel creepy when it really needed
to be creepy. His acting on that last scene was tops.

This is why it is a
remake. I thought that showing Samara's face did nothing to
undermine the movie. I believe that the producers wanted to portray
samara as a regular kid, not a freak like Sadako who would not show
her face. But the ugly truth comes out about samara and that's when
the horror begins to unveil. It creates a very effective result in
horror.

be scared of is really starting to bug me. Signs was when I first
realised how much it was irritating me.
