Water??
Since Sadako/Samara was trapped in a well, you would think she
would be able to travel through water.
I just got the image
of S. crawling out of a toilet.
Somehow it's not as scary.

It's
Sadeko
They're talking about Sadeko, not Samara. In Ringu, she can attack
from any reflective surface.

Re: Re:

I am not sure which thread or threads explain it or explain it best
but indeed people have mentioned that in the japanese version even
teens not near tv at end of seven days were killed. A pair by a rear
view mirror and one died of fright after trying to desperate remove
motorcycle helmet from his head. The images he was seeing were real
frightening and of course such was Sadako's doing.

Re:

Allow me to quote the Ringworld FAQ (ringworld.somrux.com/faq.htm):
"In
the novelized Ring, victims of the video curse are described as
looking into reflective surfaces at the moment of their death and
being horrified by what they see. In merging the movies with the
backstory of the novels, we can explain Sadako's emergence as not so
much "real" as it is a byproduct of the Ring Virus, a psychic
projection born of energies so strong that group projection is
possible (as in Ring 2, with Masami's flashback and the scene at the
mental ward).
Furthermore, in this vision Sadako is not
limited to emerging only from television sets. She can utilize any
reflective surface: a car windshield in the case of Youko and
Takehiko, the faceplate of a motorcycle helmet in that of Iwata (in
the novel, he was described as clawing madly at the helmet, trying
to remove it)." ---
This is
never stated explicitly in the movie. We can only infer it. Many
people have taken this as fact.

Do you think they see Sadako emerging from the reflective surface?
Or do they see a reflection of themselves being changed by her that
frightens them?

I am not a math expert or a master of grammer but yes that is
correct. We are to infer; just as we have so many other things of
personal opnion based on what we do know for sure; that it is just a
mind nightmare of a thing instead of actual emergence of Sadako

I believe the tape images sometimes at a fast fowarded speed and
sounds and screeches in the ears. The bugs, the ladder, the well,
the fingers squirming, the jumping off a cliff. MAKE IT STOP!!!!

Re:

When Katie died, the 3 others that watched the video died too. Josh
jumped out a window and it can be imagined that the room behind the
window held a TV. However, the other two were killed in a car wreck.
A car is much less likely to have a TV in it, so I assume that like
Sadako, Samara can come out of any reflective serfaces She just
prefers TVs. =)

...for quoting from the FAQ and helping to clear that up. The
"reflective surface" theory is far from canonical-- it's just an
idea I came up with, using elements from the novel to try and
explain what would otherwise be a major plot hole in the movie
treatment.

also... a TV is something that absolutely everyone can relate to,
so it makes it more real.
