I have a question though: Anyone have a idea as to what the significance was of the nails coming out of the woodwork after Noah and Naomi had taken the lid off the well. Remember that part..when the nails in the cabin were lifting and coming out of the woodwork..

inteferon further down the Spiral (11/3/02 9:01:09 pm) Reply \| Edit	Nails I think: a) It was for creepy effect, and, b) Samara needed Rachael to be tipped into the well. The nails coming out caused the floor to collapse, which caused the TV to fall through the floor and provide the required nudge.

InfluxDatum out from the well (11/3/02 9:14:23 pm) Reply	have to agree with mikejonas and interferon done for creepy effects and to allow the tv to fall under and hit rachel. water would not have such effects. certainly water can rot wood and make nails pop OVER TIME, but not that way as shown in the film.

I see no evidence of that nowhere in the film. if you can be more concrete with reference to another scene, maybe I can take your explanation. In katie's room the water was just sitting there and the same with Noah's office. I just think that the water is the water that drips as she comes out from the well and materializes in the physical world and no more! Or a bi-product that results from jumping from the spirit realm into the physical real. Samara could have just poped the nails with her ghostly hands.

The scene in which Katie dies, I could clearly see that her face was getting waterlogged as the line of sight is drawn between her and samara. Someone took still of those photos. I did not see water at all splashing on katie or anything like that. We do find water on the floor and on the door knob, but that's it. And in Noah's case, I don't think he touched any of the water that was originating from samara.

There are lots of ways she could kill them, and part of what's so cool about this story is that we don't KNOW how she does is. That drowning thing is a cool, well thought-out theory, but it's just a theory.

Where Katie is talking about all the waves affecting peoples brains etc? An electromagnetic force could be held accountable for the screws coming out.

Water is her calling card, not her method. I do believe though, that she kills in the "7 days all at once method" and that it is quick. (mercifully)
