The producer... Who pays for the movie. He also approves
everything... that's about it. Take it from someone who's got a foot
in the movie biz: Unless the producer was also the writer or
director, or involved in either of those, what he says about the
story is pretty much moot. If she were adopted, how did Anna Morgan
get a birth certificate identifying Samara as the daughter of she
and Richard, as well as the product of a full term pregnancy?

Re:

It was clear (to me at least) from the movie that Samara was Anna's
daughter after a whole bunch of miscarriages...and Anna got Samara
only after some kind of "unorthodox" means of conceiving a chiled
indicated by that weird japanese scroll thingamajig that rachel
finds.

doctor: 'They wanted a child [the morgans] more than anything.
Poor Anna...they tried hard for years, but sometimes it is just not
meant to be, and one winter they went away...n' when they came back,
it was with Samara...adopted they said...never did say from
where...that her mother had died from complications. But they had
their baby, they had their horses, everything was fine until Anna
started coming to see me. That she was suffering visions...seeing
things...horrible things...like they have been burned inside her and
that it only happened around Samara, that the girl put them
there...{drinks coffee}"
But I agree, there is a record
referring to the birth of Samara. There is just a big conspiracy on
the origins of Samara. I don't think that Parker (producer of The
Ring, about the MTV article) was ready to address those details. I
think that they are working on the sequel and they can make it out
whatever they want to be.

Re:

I have to agree with the doubters on her being adopted. Granted,
like all of us this could be seen as his interpretation and since he
is a producer on the film, he could be establishing his viewpoint as
being "across the board true." Something I have had experience with
producers doing is taking an idea that you propose and running with
it almost like they thought of it on their own. Very fustrating and
it usually self serving on the part of the producer.
That
said, there are just too many questions to be asked about her being
adopted, especially if they procured Samara overseas. Its just too
dubious sounding, even more than Anna taking a herbal conception aid
and eventually becoming pregnant with Samara, not only that, but
was'nt there also mention of Anna being artifically inseminated at a
European clininc or something. That lead seems possible too, and for
the time Samara was born in, it is a possible reason for so much
secrecy. I think the producer was adding smoke to an already
efficient smokescreen.

Re:

Just to play Devil's advocate, for a well-connected couple like the
Morgans, it wouldn't have taken much to get some sort of back-alley
adoption thingy going on and get a crackpot doctor to forge adoption
papers back in the day and then come back to town "claiming" the
child for their own, but that explanation would be...a little
obvious and disappointing.

Possiblely Anouke, but I think this document speaks more about what
really went on. See below...

Re:

the producer IS wrong or the folks at dreamworks know jack about
birth certificates.
parents of adopted children get a
different type of birth certificate than biological parents do.
bio-parents get 'certificates of live birth' as shown in the ring
movie, adoptive parents simply get altered copies of the certificate
of live birth, but it is titled a 'record of birth'.
how do i
know this? i'm adopted and i've compared mine and my brother's
documents (he was born to my adoptive mother) ;p

the
sequel
either way, Samara's origin will be discussed and explored, and
that is what is important to me.
