Probably stupid
newbie question
Alrighty, so last night I watched The Ring, which was possibly the
greatest horror film I've ever seen. Recently, horror movies have
been trying to be funny too, and I don't think the two match
particularly well. Now, I haven't seen Ringu, and I would feel bad
either downloading or pirating a copy of it, but in it (or Ring 2,
or Ring 0) do they explain what happens if a victim is killed BEFORE
the 7 days are up? For example, say Bob was to watch the tape, and,
the next day, in an unrelated incident, he is killed in a drive-by
shooting. What does Samara/Sadako do then? Does the curse continue?

Dying before the
seven days are up.
I don't think it's addressed in any of the movies. Since the curse
seems to hinge on the presence of the cursed person (Samara has to
figure out which TV to come out of, after all), one would think that
after Bob gets "a cap busted in his ass," Samara/Sadako wouldn't
bother any further. It's not like she'd climb out of a TV in the
funeral home and stand next to the coffin scratching her
head...would she?

ork!
I was thinking more along the lines of, will she randomly infect
someone else, or will the curse stop for a while... Bob's dead, not
because of her, so she has an unresolved "thingy", and now she
craves more, so she's going to go and randomly hurt someone else.

Hi. Just to make this clear, there are
no stupid
questions. Only the answer may be stupid.
Feel free to ask
whatever you'd like.

Re:
The curse would end with him, I'd guess. But there's always the
possibility that other copies are floating around.
To
clarify: the events in "The Ring" weren't "typical" of the curse--it
was a crucial stage in the development of the curse itself. Had
Rachel, Noah, and Aidan all died after being cursed and the tapes
destroyed, the curse would've ended there, at least for a while. And
I doubt Samara's spirit hasn't been resting for twenty years, and
isn't continuing to rest--on this board we've addressed the
possibility that Samara may have made previous attempts to reach out
into the world, perhaps through earlier versions of the tape, and
had Samara not been discovered at Shelter Mountain and the
subsequent actions made by Rachel to spread the curse not happened,
Samara would've kept trying to find a way out.

Stupid

This may be on the mean
side, but I believe there's one stupid question in the context of
this board, if the poster has seen the remake:
"Why did
Rachel survive?"
Not that it's not worth discussing and
coming up with alternative interpretations, but at least on the
surface, the intent of the filmmakers in the movie was clear. Rachel
even spelled it out in dialogue. If you left the movie and were
wondering about that aspect of the film, you weren't paying
attention. I'll take the high road and just not dignify the question
with a response, but I'll be tearing my hair out restraining myself
from saying some things I know I'll regret saying.

Ok, ok, except for that, there are no stupid questions...
Yep, no good... No good.
That's what this country has become. Wanna know why-- No whispering,

Re: Probably

I personally like the idea of Samara coming out of the TV at the
funeral home, pissed off and frustrated that she cannot do the dirty
deed!!!!

She can always make-believe, 8-year-olds have imaginative
minds.
She could have sat the dead dude up, run in front of
him and make her killer glare, run behind the dead dude, raise his
hands and make screaming sounds, drop him to the ground, run in
front of him again, and grin.
