Placement of
Well
If the morgan family lived on Moesko Island... how come Samara was
killed on the mainland? What was she doing singing near the well and
what were the horses doing there?

Re: Placement of

This is probably covered in the FAQ, but if not...
The
Morgans killed Samara on the mainland because they wanted to cover
up her murder; as far as the islanders thought, they took Samara
back to be permanently institutionalized. The Morgans were probably
also wary of the aura of misfortune around her and didn't want to
take a chance that those bad energies would remain even after her
death, so they would have wanted to kill her as far away from home
as possible.
They took her to Shelter Mountain specifically
because it appears to be a remote location; they were also taking
her there on the pretense that they were planning to move there, so
it's understandable that they'd pick out a place that was suited for
horses (those weren't the Morgan horses there...perhaps the place,
or an adjoining property, was someone else's ranch). Samara was just
hanging out, really, singing near the well just because...although
there's a possibility that, being clairvoyant, she was aware of her
fate and was resigned to accept it.

lemme get this
straight....
Anna and Samara were BOTH in the Eola mental hospital? And they
were both withdrawn when the morgans lost hope of fixing the
situation using conventional means? Before returning to the Island
Samara was killed. The horses went crazy after this and stayed crazy
and suicidal until Anna killed herself. They recovered thereafter.
Is that the whole thing?

It's all in the movie in
one capacity or another...it's just a matter of drawing the facts
together into a conclusion--Richard's attempt to hide even Samara's
existence, things the doctor on the island told Rachel, the
flashback to the well scene.

Right. It's not directly
stated in the movie, but one would figure that when Samara was being
examined to see how she was hurting her mother, they were treating
her mother as well.

Not quite, and here's
where there IS an additional resource--the movie's official site at
ring-themovie.com. Piecing the history together, this is how things
happened:
-Samara was institutionalized at Eola County
Psychiatric Hospital for a few months because she was behaving oddly
and affecting her mother. -Richard, concerned that all this
would just draw more attention to Samara and her dark origins and
powers, pulls her out of ECPH and takes her back to the island. In
an attempt to mitigate her effect on Anna, he builds the barn room
to keep Samara a safe distance away. -Samara, bothered by the
horses in the barn, whether deliberately or not does something to
the horses to drive them crazy and kill themselves. She also
continues to affect Anna. -Samara and Anna are put in ECPH again,
and for some reason or another (which may include Samara killing her
doctor), Richard checks them out again. -Whether they returned
once more to the island briefly or not is unclear, but shortly
afterward the Morgans take Anna to Shelter Mountain and put her in
the well. -Anna kills herself (some people on the forum believe
it's because Samara continued to plague her with hallucinations, but
I tend to think it's more out of guilt from killing her daughter),
and the surviving horses gradually return to normal--not necessarily
because Anna killed herself, but because Samara was dying/dead and
far away and her hex faded.
