One thing about
RING remake that I do not understand!
Okay, there is one point that I find a bit illogical and
weird:
At one point in the film, doesn't Rachel say: "I
think... before you die, you see a ring..."
Where in the
world does she get this conjecture? Sure, the ring is a primary
component in the mystery, but what clue tells her that it foretells
doom?
This puzzles me- that quote was in the movie, right? Or
is my memory faulty...
Thoughts?

She may not mean EXACTLY before you die. She's probably just
referring to a recurring part in the video (the appearence of a
ring), and how eventually you die in seven days.

Yes, Rachel mentions it to Noah as they are going to Shelter
Mountain.

i think it was just an excuse to cram in a tag-line. Maybe I
just have a twisted mind but whenever I hear that line, I can
imagine seeing it on some kind of 'facesitting' porn site.

Re: Re:
I think ibpants is on the right track; there wasn't much sense to
include the line other than as a nice tagline (it may even have been
dubbed in in post).
At least it's just awkward, and not
cringeworthy; like in Star Trek: First Contact, where the inventor
of warp drive (whom the Enterprise crewmembers meet thanks to time
travel) figures out, "You're astronauts, on some kind of star
trek!"

A possible
explanation...
She may be referring to that squiggly spiral that Katie drew, the
last page that was written on in her notebook. I'm not quite sure
how she gets "the ring" from that, but she's been experiencing all
the other stuff that Katie drew in that book: the scratching out of
faces, and so on. So I think she thinks she will see something
related to that spiral before she dies, like Katie did, and believes
that Katie was trying to draw a ring over and over.

If you ask me, when Aidan was going ape-sh!t drawing rings, his
pictures were reminiscent of solid spider webs. Kind of appropriate
in a way.....

Re: A possible

I don't recall exactly when she says it... I seem to think it was
near the end, post body retrieval. the second-to-last big scene of
her in the well with the cover overhead certainly would act as a Big
Giant Clue, as does the samara death flashback.

re
One odd thing about Aiden's manic ring drawings is that they seemed
to spiral and spiral and the last one they showed looked like the
inside of a well.

Exactly.
Rachel was browsing through Katie's personal notebook. Things that
Katie drew of the images in her head. Rachel noticed the elipsoidal
spiral, which looked very much like a black hole. It was the very
last thing Katie drew...
The contrast between a busy book and
suddenly the rest of the notebook with white pages was interesting.
It is parallel to what happens in real life before and after the 7
days are over. This is why she made the comment: "I think that
before you die, you see the ring"

Spokes
"What was with the ladder-like 'spokes' though? It's clear that he

They look to me like cross-hatches,
which cross the spiral to make little boxes that look like bricks.

Re:

I've always taken the scribblings to imply something basically
circular - i.e. the well. So where would a spiral fit in? Some kind
of vortex? Is the drawing above of some Einsteinian space warp
(great Simpsons episode, heh). Or is Aidan, perhaps for the first
time in his life, drawing something with depth perception? If he'd
go to the lengths of drawing representative bricks and adding
perspective, why wouldn't he also take the care to make it a proper
circle (or even an oval)?
*Edit*
As an afterthought,
it occured to me that viral genetic material is often depicted as a
coil-like spiral. Was Aidan drawing an RNA/DNA 'ladder'?
