NEW Theory on
"comfortable" death positions.
Ok my g/f & I just came up with this theory, and after a bit of
refining and discussion here it
is.
******SPOILER*******
Ok the last thing we see
is samara coming for the victims.
what if she "posseses" or
inhabits their bodies temporarily, so they relive her last moments
in the well, so the last thing they see is the "ring" from the well.
that all fits.
In experiencing her last moments,what else would
you do if you were stuck in a well for the last seconds of life,
find the most comfortable postion possible.
In common folklore,
vengeful ghosts have always wanted 2 goals, to have company in
death, and/or for others to experience their pain. this would also
explain the rapid "decay" (samara probably didnt look too pretty
while she was at her 6th day.)
this also explains the messed up
face of katie when she screamed. she looked waterlogged, and really
screwed up. (look at the post "katies face" for the pics, one is
down right now)
basically in the opening scene, what if that
isnt samara "rushing to kill her" but her rushing to posses katie.
then of course there would be the quick shots of the video, since
they are samaras memories.
(what better way to be heard than to
put them in your shoes?)
Now becca seeing this, would go
completely nuts. girl comes out of tv, (walks?) into her best friend
who screamed and looks creepy as hell, and katie shivers into the
closet and dies.
ALSO
for those of you wondering if becca
was in the room the whole time, SHE WAS! evidence is this. if she
entered the room after the water was there, there wold have been
beccas footprints, not a perfect puddle under the door AND, katie
called for becca multiple times downstairs........becca saw it
beginning and was too scared to respond.
its all starting
to make sense, i welcome discussion.

Wait, ok. The only thing people say is that Samara scares them to
death. Well y wouldnt becca die?? I know she didnt see the tape but
she did see samara right? but does like samara cause more fright to
people that have seen it or something?

rebecca didnt see the video, the possesion theory explains why
katie died, becca just got scared. Katie (in theory) was possesed.
NEW INFO
she just came up with another part, which adds
on to the virus theory, the tape programs the "virus" (idea they
will die etc) into the person, so that samara can identify them by
the imagery in their minds now.

yes
all the ppl who watched the tape opened a spiritual door to samara
to be partially possessed. Everything points to this fact, from
warped facial photo shoots to strange images and dreams. Katie
commented 'why are this things in my head' or something for that
effect. It all stayed with them and they were not
external.
Rachael continued to experience samara even after
making a copy of the tape and showing it to Noah. Samara just chose
not to kill her, but it does not prevent her from torturing her for
the rest of her life. I don't think the curse is broken by copying
the tape and showing it to someone else.
Samara can only kill
those that opened up (gave her legal rights) to her by watching the
tape. She surely scared Becca. But she could not kill Becca. Not in
the standpoint of spiritual law. For the victims, it was not only
fear, but spirit of death transmitted from Samara into the victims
that killed them if not something in addition as well.

many copies as they want.

That's not exactly true.
Katie's mom only says that her heart stopped. Here's the exact
quote:

yes
I think when you watch the tape you are "formatted" and then Samara
can record over you. She records her life and death over your own
memories and makes them real for you-including your demise.
I
like the idea of her taking physical possession-or at the very least
controlling her victim's movements.

tape, you become incompatible with other recording equipment-hence
the blurry faces in photos and on the closed-circuit video
camera....

I like this explanation!
That's yet another part of the
whole "mutant smallpox virus" idea from the Japanese sequels that I
didn't like-- if it's an organic virus that kills Sadako's victims,
how does that explain the warped faces on film?

The virus thing it's just on the original novels. In the japanese
movies it's simply a curse, like in the remake.
In the
novels, there are no warped faces, nor people coming out of TV's.

You know what? I like this theory. It gives the remake a bit more
of its own identity, and it actually fits with both what we've seen
and even the medium the curse/virus is transmitted
through.
Man, if this doesn't help DVD sales even more...

Hai!
I give this theory my HyperDork Seal of Approval. It has the same
"resonance" as several other reasonable theories I've seen on the
subject.
(For what it's worth) My theory was that death just
wasn't instant. People moved around a little, ignoring Samara
(essentially, once she's "in" a person, she's not visible), and
tried to get comfortable to control (assumed) shaking and coughing
up of water.
Is it just me, or is "psychosomatic
drowning" just not as unpleasant a death as "to scared to
self-defecate mind-killing terror"?

Umm, what about the Rasen
film?
Of course, everyone seems to be content with ignoring
this version, as well as the medical virus-related goobledygook from
the novels. So that's a good thing.

Oh, sorry. I was ignoring that
too
The Rasen movie is a more huh, 'faithful' adaptation of the
Rasen novel. Story-wise, I think. Not quality-wise. Because the
Rasen novel is infact creepy, even with the virus plot. Besides, the
existence of a virus in the whole story does not detract it from the
horror at all. It's just a matter of doing it intelligently...
that's all.
