I was hopeing it
wouldn't come to this
I am one never prone to have nightmares. I never had any. Movies
are only movies. For all my life I have known this and been able to
shrug off any fear and I don't want to be afraid now. I am no scardy
cat I assume.
But still.. I was real careful when going out
in the dark to take out the trashcans. I was real careful to get a
light on if I was gonna go into a dark room. I saw The Ring today
and it wasn't creepy and yet.. I am tempted to maybe not sleep as
soundly as I usually do. I got chills. I admit that. No matter how
rational I am.
I know my friend who I recomended this
afternoon to see the movie within a week shall so I shouldn't be
afraid at all. I can't copy theatre release. I can't bootleg or
steal or record what I saw at the movies. But I did make sure a
friend will see the ring. I'll be fine. I must be.

Yep me again. I am better now since mom and step-dad returned from
their dinner out. I am no longer home alone in the house with most
of the lights off ^_^

I wish I could say it gets better, but it doesn't seem
to...
About all I can suggest is to get a copy of the movie
when it comes out on DVD and watch it a whole bunch of times. MST3K
is about the only thing that can banish fear.

It's gotten much better for me--within about five days--now Im on
my sixth day (tonight at 9:00pm) will be my seventh, and to be
honest, it doesn't bother me. So, I'm pretty sure, after the third
day, it'll be a little better, and after the fifth, you'll be fine.

Hopefully you have satellite service too, because if you have
cable, and it goes out, when you have your TV on...You'll probably
run out of your house screaming.
(When satellite service goes out, it doesn’t show ‘snow,’ or
static on the screen, it just displays a message saying “searching
for satellite signal”)

Re: I wish I
could say it gets better...
you have no idea of whats ahead, The first night no sleep, second
you pass out due to no sleep in 28+ hours(but you only sleep where
everyone is, and make sure you have lights and tvs etc on) third
night same as before. fourth and fifth night you might have to stay
the night with a friend.. or get reallllly high and pass out,
(although this wont be hard due to not being a regular smoker).. a
week later still scared out of your mind but only at night. During
the day your like o everythings fine i can look at the scary katie
face and not cry, but when night falls you sleep on the floor next
to your mom.. and every time you try to drive at night you speed to
try to make it to your destination faster and fear looking in the
rear view mirror but you do it anyway reapeatedly and you can
picture the water logged samara/sadako hand slowly reaching for the
back of your neck from the back seat.. AND when you go pee you have
to open the shower curtain and pee standing to the side of the
toilet so your back isnt facing the shower.. AND, when you try to
sleep you have to atleast leave one normal light and and put
something infront of the closet door, AND you turn around FREQUENTLY
as if someones gonna be behind you. AND you only watch disney
channel and nickelodean because they dont play the ring commercials
and they dull the FEAR.. but then you see those damn lilo and stitch
promos and lilos voice is the same as samaras! and everything comes
back in one huge rush and you ball up and cry... AND!!! well thats
about it.... no but seriously this movie @#%$ my head up.. im sooo
paranoid..

Actually, now that I remember, I had to take like 5mg of melatonin
to go to sleep--and trust me, 5mg doesn't sound like anything--but
that's a lot for a kid like me to take.

Re: I wish I

IT DOES NOT GET BETTER.
It is a week later for me, and I
still can't get any sleep until either the sun comes up or someone
else in my house is up and active.
I am afraid of the color
white now, but only in reflections when everything else is dark. I
am also afraid of silence at night, because it makes me think of the
possibilities. I am afraid of my glasses because of the whole
reflective surfaces thing.
I have two TVs in my room that I
don't even turn on because all they pick up is static. There's a
channel in my area that shows trailers of movies playing in the
area. I watch when it shows the Ring's trailer, then shudder in fear
afterwards.
I haven't watched a tape in a week.
I need
help.

kind of unsettling.

Holy cow, some
of you grab a hold of yourselves
Seriously. I live alone. If samara did exist, nobody could stop her
except God himself. All you have to do is pray to God for the evil
to leave. But since this is just fiction, I really have not lost too
much sleep. The night I watched the movie I did loose some sleep.
That creepy face of evil was too much. But then, I have watched this
movie over and over and over and it does not creep me out.
Some of you are going through too much. It is no fun then.
Maintain control. Think of it this way if you can't be reasonable.
Samara will show up only just before the 7th day has been completed.
Not anytime sooner. Just make sure you tell someone to watch the
movie before your days are up. If this helps, then great.

Re: I was

Hello all... newbie here
I've been reading the posts on this board practically all day, and
this is the post I decide to comment on first... ^_^;;
I saw
the Ring on Sunday (26th) - it has now been three days and I'm still
too scared to sleep without the light on (I also play music). I
wanted to watch the 6 o'clock news, but lost my nerve, and now it's
practically 8pm (that's how long I've been debating on whether or
not I should turn the TV on).
I *know* it's just a movie...
but... jeez! On the first night, I suddenly woke up out of nowhere
and couldn't go back to sleep because I had the image of Aidan
sitting in front of the TV with a well on the screen practically
burnt into my mind. o_O!
Anyway... um... just wanted to say
hi! ^^; And that I probably scare a bit more easily than the average
person... so please bear with me until I develop something of a
spine. ^_^;

Please be comforted. You will not die 7 days after seeing this
movie. It is a very compelling movie, but it is fiction. Take a deep
breath, have a piece of pie, and relax. People that see these movies
are not dropping like flies.

Re: Holy cow,

lol, I know it's just a movie. I am mostly frightened by the
abstract imagery from the video... obviously it was less frightening
towards the end when the images actually began to make sense, but
it's the initial shock that got to me.
There's just something
about abstract/surreal images that does something to my brain, I
don't know what... just the use of simple objects and lots of white,
negative space... that, paired with distorted sounds of static and
what-have-you does not a happy Sinsincere make.
Edit: Just
re-read the last post... I should get myself a stake and hammer...
garlic... crucifix... gun-with-silver-bullet and those little
mirrors my grandparents hang around the house. Oh, wait a
minute...

I was never really frightened when I was awake per say. What I did
dread was going to sleep. I KNEW I was going to dream about Samara
crawling out of the TV and warping in front of my face...THATS what
kept me up...noises and such around the house didnt really effect me
too much oddly enough.

Ring and
Real-world
For Americans, atleast, not being able to sleep because of a horror
movie is a good thing. As a nation, the folk of the latter
20th-century over here aren't used to nationalistic terrorism. We've
had a few rude shocks the past year or so. Staying awake because of
a compelling and fictional terror is a refreshing change of pace
from recent history.

well...
I must admit I too couldn't sleep when I saw the movie. I never get
scared at movies. Never. I saw the Exorcist when I was 5 years old
and thought it was lame. My parents encouraged me to join them in
their late night Tales from the Crypt viewings. But this movie had
me shaking when I left the theatre.
I didn't sleep for two
days, and was afraid to turn of the lights in my room at night. But
then the very next day I dragged someone to see it with me again.
Not a wise idea. It just reinforced all the creepy images in my
head. And the person I went to see it with initially has ordered the
original and it'll be here in a week. So I can just plan on not
sleeping again. Ever.
But in all seriousness, just find
someone to snuggle with for a night or two and you'll be fine. It's
day 5 for me and I'm sleeping like a baby. Of course that's probably
because my dorm room's so small and is such a mess that if Samara
does come for me, she'll take one look at the trouble she'll have to
go through and say "Ah screw it."

Me too
I saw it for the first time last Friday, then dragged my husband on
Sunday. I thought that if I saw it again and saw everything was the
exact same it would drive home the point that it was only a movie.
No such luck. And now my husband is aggravated with me because while
he thought it was indeed creepy, it just didn't shake him up like it
did me.
He's the type of person who fears real danger-psychos
breaking in, carjackings, terrorism, stuff like that.

My fiance was like that, too. After the movie, I kept telling him,
"I'm so scared! Didn't you find that scary?" and he'd look at me
funny saying, "Yes, but it didn't follow me out the theater like
that."
He's the type who loves watching ghost
movies/documentaries and the other day he said he envied me because
he wasn't affected the same way by the film! Noooo! You don't want
to be traumatized like this! It's only fun if it isn't you...

believe...
i believe in the supernatural - in the judeo-christian theology. As
such, I believe that demons exist and that there is a God. The God
which is the Father, The Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. Reading
through the new testament, Jesus shows how to deal with demons. They
are defeated very easily, but only with the power of God. The Bible
also gives characteristics that define spirit beings either good or
bad.

Re: Me

Not much horror scares me either, i dont know why that is. i think
i just have tough skin. I used to watch Jason movies late at night
when i was a teenager and allthough they made me jump, they left a
lot to be desired. I wanted something more frightening and
powerful.
I've always enjoyed psychological thrillers-movies
with plot twists that make you go "woah." I am a big Hitchcock fan,
and grew up on The Twilight Zone, Tales From The Cript, and Alfred
Hitchcock Presents. One of my favorite movies of all time is
Memento, which is the king of all plot twists. but horror was never
horrifying enough for me. blood and gore and undead psychos coming
after people with big knives, that never scared me.
About 5
or 6 months ago I heard whispers of a movie about a mysterious
videotape that kills people after they watch it. I was like, what
the hell? a killer video tape? that was such a shocking concept to
me. I was immediately intrigued. I thought it could be another cult
classic, if made right. I just knew this would be an amazing
film.
And i was right. I definitely was scared. not to the
point where I'm afraid of the TV or the dark or being alone at
night. I know its just a movie. But it does stretch the limits of my
imagination. Rachel's experience in the well and the visions she saw
freaked me out. I wanted to know about Samara's childhood. Thats why
I really want to see Ring 0 more than Ring 2.
But first I
have to watch Ringu, and get to know Sadako. The video store in town
that has Ring and Ring 2 is getting calls every 5 minutes for this
movie, and all their copies are checked out. It might take a while
before i can see it.
