I still wonder
about...
three things regarding the remake.
1) Why is the "shack" at
Shelter Mountain built on top of the well? 2) My friend that went
to see the movie with me swore that the newspaper that Noah was
reading at the end had a headline about the Shelter Mountain Inn
Keeper being arrested. Is he hallucinating or did I miss that? 3)
What's the deal with the man that Aiden comes to a stand still with
on the street (when they're in the rain)?

Not sure about #1 and #2, but #3 is that the man is Noah, his
father.
D
P.S. There is a similar scene in Ringu.

Oops
I can't believe I missed that. I didn't realize that was Noah. I
didn't really look like him under all that rain gear. I thought it
was just some stranger on the street. Oh well, scratch #3. I'm still
wondering about the other 2 though.

Re: Re: I still

As for 1 and 2 however:
First: Samara's killer possibly
like Sadako's killer sold the land to a developer knowing well would
be built over and evidence hidden perhaps forever as evil sealed
away.
Second: You may have been halucinateing ^_^V

re:
Yeah, but who deliberately puts a building over top of a well? Most
builders would fill the well in if they were determined to build
there. Whoever built the Shelter Mountain cabins may have very well
(no pun intended) had a hand in covering up the murder. This also
relates to #2. Could the Inn Keeper have something to do with
everything?

When you put it that way yes and especially so when considering how
unhelpful the lady Rachel tried interviewing was intentionally
being. No body in the county wants the circumstances reopened to
inquiry

Innkeeper
I'll have to look for the headline again, but I know Chris Cooper
was originally in this movie as a child murderer (a Samara
murderer??)-would make sense if he was the innkeeper and built cabin
12 over the well......they find the body, he get's arrested for a 24
year old murder???

Re:
Innkeeper
maybe it's one of those details that would be nice to know, but not
necessary. when a horror movie is shrouded in mystery it's
scary... at the point that you understand absolutely everything, it
becomes just a drama it would be nice to know i guess, but i
think i can live w/o.

FAQ
Q: How could they possibly have built the rental cabins and not
notice the well?
A: In Ring 0, we see that the well lies on
the property of Ikuma Heihachiro, Sadako's murderer. It wouldn't be
too much of a stretch to theorize that following the incident (and
his sealing of the well) he sold his property and was sure that
construction would take place over the well, perhaps in the hope
that it would "bury" Sadako's evil.
makes sense to me!

I think the
character of the Inn Keeper is quite interesting
to think about. Don't you all think his actions are more than just
a bit strange? For, example, how long has the tape been in the
collection for his residents? You would think that upon returning
it, someone would have mentioned it to him. I know I would say
something to him like.... "hey man, you shouldn't have the f***ed up
tape in there unlabelled for your guests."
Does he know
about the well? Maybe, but not necessarily. Who knows how many
different owners that run-down inn has had.
Does he know
about the tape? I think that is much more likely. I know several
people have mentioned how curious it is the way he leaves, giving
Rachel the chance to steal the tape.
My guess is that he
himself saw the tape at some point... or someone he knew saw it and
died and he discovered the secret way to survive. What better way to
pass the curse than spreading it through random people staying at an
inn? Also, consider his proximity to Samara's body!!! How much
effect could that be having on him. Is he her puppet of sorts? Maybe
he's kindof like Renfield to Dracula? Interesting thoughts I think.
