I saw the canoe
scene, right now
Ok I was watching the TV suddenly the image of Samara appeared (the
one of the hospital) I was scared to dead it really came of nowhere,
it was just there, I was scared because exactly a week ago I went to
see the movie.
Thanks to god it was a Tv Spot, but i realize
that they quickly show Noah pulling off the canoe, and very very
quickly a descomposed face on the canoe.
It was like all of
those faces of the movie, it looked great, I really don't know why
they put that scene, because I have see it here and it doesn't have
that scene, I either knew that the distribuitor here has the
scene.

Re: I saw the

This is from the new remake FAQ on ringworld: ringworld.somrux.com/faq2.htm
Q:
Was there supposed to be a scene with a canoe?
A: This was
another scene that was shot (and appeared in the trailer) but was
cut from the finished film. In it, Noah returns to the rental cabins
and pulls the canoe to shore. Inside the canoe he finds the body of
the cabin manager, who had watched the tape but failed to make a
copy.

Yes I know, I just want to comment that I saw it, but how does
people know that it was the cabin manager?
It was aired in
the US too?

I cannot remember how we deduced that it was the cabin manager but
we did. That scene was only seen in the Trailer and a few commercial
spots (if I remember correctly) for the movie, but not actually in
the movie. They edited that scene out of the US release.

IIRC, it was J. himself who was privy to the information about the
deleted scenes, and let us know on this forum.

I wonder if someone can get the screen shots of that scene...

canoe
scene
I think I have an idea why they may have cut it. When Noah "meets"
Samara, he is staring at the TV in disbelief. He's scared, for sure,
but he's also fascinated, unsure of what exactly is happening
(remember he thinks the curse is broken and everything is
hunky-dory).
If he had actually seen someone who had died of
Samarafication, and had some inkling of what was about to happen to
him, you can rest assured he wouldn't have just sat there like a
mook and waited for her. He would have been making frantic attempts
to get away, smashing the TV, whatever, possibly leaving the
apartment. We know that would have been futile, but it would also
have been a pain in the neck to film, so they kept Noah in the dark
about what was about to happen to him-for the sake of the story.

solution to
noahs problem
you know what i would do, and what noah should have tried? when he
sees the well pop up on the screen, quickly turn the tv onto its
face, so the screen is facing straight at the floor. i mean, she'd
just be stuck tapping on the floor. to be honest, it'd be pretty
funny to see. demon girl from hell stuck up against the floor. and
plus, what happens if the screen of the tv is too small for her to
fit through? what if she gets stuck halfway out?
on a
slightly more serious note, why is it that katie seemed to die just
from the tv in her room showing the well, but for noah, samara has
to climb out and attack him? with katie, it shows her walk in the
room, see the tv, scream, flash to tv shot of well, then
jump-cut-zoom onto katies disfigured death face. i suppose that is
because they didn't want to give too much away right in the
biginning, but it still seems like it would have made more sense
just to not show her death face until the later flash of her in the
closet. then it would fit with noahs.
or is the only reason
samara climbs out of the tv for noah because they have released her
from the well and now she just can? or am i looking to deeply into
this?
on an even more unrelated note, did anyone else see
becca in the mental hospital and first think it was samara? that's
who she looked like. maybe thats intentional. i don't know. im done
rambling.

Re: solution to
noahs problem
I too approach it along those lines: Samara may have ogled Katie as
well - it's just it was an effect they were saving for the Noah
scene.
There's no "looking too deeply" in my book - the
possibilties and levels are virtually limitless. Great, huh?

!
Maybe Samara didn't come out of the TV until AFTER Rachel freed her
from the well.

Re: !
Maybe; fact is, we don't really know (and we won't unless the
sequel addresses it). One thing that one should consider, though, is
that in the original Japanese movies, Sadako did come out of the TV
to go after Tomoko, the "Katie" character. Not saying that it's what
definitely happened in the remake, but it's a possibility that can't
be ruled out, either.

Re: !
My thought on the matter is as follows. At the beginning of the
movie, the first girl's death scene is cut short (to preserve
mystery.) We see her reacting to the well on television, but she's
at her door at the time. Later, when she's found dead, she's in her
closet. Maybe Samara came out of the television and chased her into
the closet before killing her.
By the way I'm new here. I
saw the Ring over a week ago and I'm happy to say that I am still,
to my knowledge, alive. Though, I must say I didn't sleep AT ALL the
night after I saw it.
