Funny prank
idea
Download a cursed video (from either the remake or the original
film,) in any format, and change the summary info to a 'porno' file,
e.g. "Pam and Tommy XXX," and change the file name, then put the
files in your p2p shared directory..
Just imagine the faces
on those perverts! Bwahahahaha..

By the way,
a better one would be a high-quality screensaver of Samara crawling
out of the well... of course, this would only work on people who had
seen the movie a week before, but still...

Well, I downloaded a .mov format of the remake's cursed video from filmforce.ign.com/article...128p1.html
then converted the film to an mpeg using EO-Video ( www.eo-video.com/
) but I don't know how to change the summary info without corrupting
the file 
Does anyone know where to get .mov to .mpeg converter that
allows you to change the summary info?
Also, does anyone know
where to get a reasonable good version of the Japanese cursed video?

Well, if you're going to do it right - you have to name it XXX.AVI
(see the screenplays & writings section.)
Of course, if
you're going to do it right, you have to throw yourself out the
window, too...

The prank turns
ugly...
Hi. I'm new. And somewhat freaked...
I've been lurking on
this forum ever since I saw the remake on the 19th. Today I read
this thread, and used the link to the cursed video. And when I
watched the cursed video, I was thinking it would be cool if
somebody (with better video editing skills than I) stuck a phone
ring on the end. You know, after the static fades...the phone rings.
Be careful what you wish for.
A couple minutes and a
couple more open windows later, and what do I hear coming from my
speakers? A ringing phone. Never should have left the sound up after
the video...
Turns out it was from a NetZero ad on another
page I had up. Remind me to hate them forever...
Anyway, thought some of you might find that ammusing. Now, I
just have to wait for my heart to slow back down before I go back to
searching for a decent copy of Ringu. I'm nothing if not a glutton
for punishment.

scared
all i know is i saw the movie last night and when i got home i was
freaked out. i turned on the tv after i convinced myself i was being
stupid. immediately, the fone rang. it was a blocked number (samara
knows about caller id). i answered the fone. someone whispered "7
days". i said thats real funny as they hung up. i went to my
computer to wake it from its screen saver and there was a webpage
about "the Ring".
i was freaked out. then i realized i had began
to research it right before i went to see the movie and must have
left it up. then i heard a noise, like something clinking agaist a
piece of glass. i told my self i was being stupid again. then my tv
went snowy. i ran over and cut it off immediately and went and hid
under the covers. true story, i swear.

The prank
I did something that scared the s*** out of a mate after watching
Ringu. He went off to the toilet after the film, i got a towel,
draped it over my head, pointed at the TV, and set it to the cursed
video part (I didn't look at it, I would have felt **** scared!).
When he came in he wouldn't stop screaming!. I turned the lights off
then slipped out, came back in (having removed my towel) and said
"what's going on, why are you screaming?" and he started gibbering.
TO be honest, his ranting scared me.
As for the sadako
crawling out bit, you could make the program a .exe file, show the
video, get it to trace you, locate the phone, dial it and play a
pre-recorded "7 days". Then you could get it to (like the friday
13th virus in a way) show a film of Sadako coming up to the screen.
NOW THAT'S SCARY! It's also possible to pull it off, but I lack the
programming knowledge to do it.
SPOILER: I fount the bit in
Ringu where the guy hits sadako over the head and into the well
particularly funny; looked like slapstick!

I just
want
I just want a double-image screesaver. One that pops up once every
seven days with the Samara-walks scene.
Of course, when I
originally had this idea, I wanted to set it to go off on the 23rd
of October (I, and my ex-girlfriend saw it two days early).
I figured it would make a wonderful screensaver to put on
her computer.

i found a program called gotomypc and it lets you
remotely control your PC from anywhere, you actually get to see your
desktop and everything! well whatever you do shows up on the monitor
too..........
make sure someone is watching your comp. then
log in from somewhere else, and run the video of the "tape"
Then
find a video of her coming out of the well, play that....
as she
nears the screen...........
remotely turn off the
computer.
make sure the speakers are way
up.

pranks I've
done
I've done a few pranks involving the movie. I took my sister to see
it, and at the end I managed to get my phone to ring exactly in sync
with the point the static stops. It was a little tricky, as I had to
disable sounds and lights on the phone... then memorize in 5 minutes
before she arrived, up up, ok, down, ok, down down, ok. Then my
ringer would go off... so some effort was put forth.
Then
after taking my other sister, I downloaded the official sites screen
saver without her knowledge, the one that's a mock up of the tap.
Static and image flashes. So after she went home I got a frantic
phone call... "It's happening!".
And finally, I took my own
mother... the killer of all. The woman who ceases to be afraid of
anything. After seeing it, she was visibly shaken... so of course I
waited until it was around 3 in the morning, turned the family room
TV on to channel 2 (only static on our cable) and turned up the
noise. I had to wait a few minutes but it was priceless. Imagine
just having seen the movie and waking in the middle of a dark house
to hear... static... and having to fumble through the dark to try
and get to the TV...
I was laughing, needless to say.

My own
idea.
I always thought it would be funny to go to a showing of the Ring
dressed as Sumara. Sit in the front row and have friends make you
look inconspicuous. Then, at the end, slip out before everyone else
does. Then wait in the exit hallway around a corner. The first
person to turn the corner would sh|t their pants in an instant. Im
not a girl though, so I couldn't pull it off, even if I tried.

I thought it would be funny to tap (or even grab) the person in
front of you in the theater right when Samara grabs Rachel's wrist
in her nightmare. What would be even better would be to put on a
Samara wig, so that when the person you just annoyed turns around to
see who did it, they would get a second surprise. 
Of course, I wouldn't actually do it to a stranger.

Makes You
Nervous...
One of the last times I went to see the Ring at a small theater, I
halfway expected someong to come out of the screen (there was a
small unexplained hatch underneath it). I thought it would be an
interesting touch... but I think it's just because I'm jumpy at the
end of that movie. I sat through the credits once because I had a
feeling they'd show the static with her walking towards the
screen... they didn't do that either. Now the fun is almost
over...
Then the DVD comes.

That would be incredibly cruel... I always get antsy in the theater
and am just waiting for something to reach out and grab
me...
what I'd do if that something ever did.

True story- I live in Tucson, AZ. My sister-in-law lives in
Huntington Beach, CA. My wife and I went to see the movie in Tucson
at a sneak preview. So did my sister-in-law in CA. About 10 mins
after the movie got out we're on the freeway and I remembered how my
sister-in-law likes scary movies and I wanted to make her jealous
that I had seen it already. So I call her from my cell phone JUST AS
SHE IS LEAVING THE THEATER IN CA!!! She picks up and I say "SEVEN
DAYS" the same way from the movie. She stoped in her tracks in the
movie theater and had to collect herself before she could drive
home. The funny thing is, I had no idea she went to a sneak preview
the same day and time my wife and I did. It was a very freaky moment
for all three of us and I had to apologize to her for putting her
though that. But it is a true story and I wanted to share it with
everybody.

LOL i just played a trick on my friend. He was asking me about the
new Chinese soap called the Monkey King 3 that's coming up and i
told him i have a trailor for it and asked him if he wanted to d/l
it. he was so eager to d/l it and after he did, he was like...wtf is
