Few more tidbits
on seeing the remake
Finally got to see the remake, albeit the crappy FTF avi release
floating on Kazaa that chops off the heads for a good part of the
movie. (At least MOST of it is okay.. and hey, dodgy video is sort
of fitting for The Ring. *g*) Having it filtered down
through watching on my screen and bad video quality toned down the
scare factor a little, but I was still spooked - I *knew* what to
expect for the final scene, being a spoiler junkie, and I still
jumped a foot out of my chair.
Damn good thing the only
long-haired woman I know is a blonde. :)
Anyway, it seemed
pretty obvious to me what was going on during the movie - being a
sci-fi/gaming geek, I chalked it up to "powerful psychic projects
her mind from beyond the grave" which neatly explains just about
everything - the physical occurances like the water are a
side-effect of Samara projecting. (Okay, all that's been talked
about before, but why not beat a dead horse and fling it into the
sea?)
One odd thought that occurred to me while searching for
a *better* AVI version is that The Ring Tape is eerily similar to a
certain other One Ring in some ways. They're both malvolent objects
of evil. They both want to be found, so as to do the work of their
master. They both seem to have a kind of will of their own, too -
the tape changes itself subtly during each viewing.
Granted,
throwing the videotape into the well probably wouldn't have done any
good. :D
Oh, and Noah scared me a LOT more than Katie,
oddly.

I was more scared of Katie then Noah..Noah kinda looked funny but
Katie was freaky looking...real freaky.

i don't know, i thought noah's death face was a lot worse. i mean,
his head was all sunken in on one side. it was like samara had a
real grudge against him, maybe because he was a neglectful father
himself, or that aidan was finally getting the kind of dad that
samara never had... ^^;

Hm...nobody knows how freaked out i got when i saw Katie though.
You don't know that theyre gonna show it cuz the scene just pops out
of nowhere. But they didnt have any sound effects when they shows
Noah but he was also pretty nasty looking. I dont know who was
worse. I think Katie was. That was just so freaky.

having seen the original before the remake, i knew the scene was
coming, i just didn't know the extent of how icky katie's death face
was gonna be. ;p
however.. little prepared me for noah kicking
back on the la-z-boy. i liked that they very briefly flashed his
face. the effect would have been lost if they showed it onscreen
long enough to stare at it. semi-subliminal horror is keen ^^

I knew there were reasons why I was planing on not reading any of
the posts in here until the movie came out the the UK....

I just saw the movie this weekend, but when she turned the chair
around to look at noah's face, it didn't show it.....it just cut to
her screaming. are there different edited versions in certain
theaters?

No, when she turned the chair around they didnt show his face.
Close to the end of the movie they were doing these little
flashbacks and they showed a short like half a second of him and
thats where that pic is from.
