Excorcist vs The
Ring?
Ok guys I have went back 8 pages and have not seen any topics on
this so here goes:
Which is scarier? I had heard that the
Ring was the spookiest since the Sixth Sense, but if you ask me it
was WAY scarier and the only thing I can compare my fear to is the
Excorcist. When I was 12 I read William Peter Blatty's The
Excorcist( highly recommended if you never have) and ever since then
I have been scared shytless of that movie. I never thought another
movie could ever do that to me again but lo and behld here comes the
Ring!
The only reason why,IMO. that the Excorcist is better
is because the frames of Regans face were much longer and burned a
deeper image into my mind. Along with the whole God vs Devil thing.
Anyways what do you guys think and mentiona scarier movie if you
dont think either one of these is the top.

I think it's an individual thing. As scary as the Exorcist was-at
least I knew what was going on. She's possessed, we can fight it,
these are the weapons, etc.
Jason and Freddy and
Vampires-scary, but killable (usually) and flee-able
But the
idea of something you can't run or hide from, can't fight and can't
understand??
GAH!!!

The actual Exorcist movie didn't scare me in the least. Actually, I
found it quite comical in parts. However, the subliminal images
scared the crap out of me. I remember going to sleep one night and
every night, seeing Captian Howdy's face. I am no longer afraid of
it because I just kept looking at and eventually, it didn't bother
me. I think he looks kind of cool now

Scary
stuff
For me, Excorcist was more shocking (for the times), but The Ring
is scarier - not in a "Boo!" way, but just leaving me with this
lingering sense of disquiet and foreboding.
A really scary
(and interesting) movie for me was John Carpenter's version of "The
Thing". Devil possession is easy to rationalize, yet the Samaran
Curse and the alien Thing were not (for me at least).

Definately Ring. Ring 2 for that matter, I think Ring 2 is the
scariest movie I've seen (yeah, flame away :P) The Exorcist is cool,
but I think the makeup they used for Regan when she was possessed
looked really stupid, that really damaged the movie for me. I think
it would have been *far* more effective had they left her looking
normal. Still it's a great flick.

"The only reason why,IMO. that the Excorcist is better is because

To me, that's why Ring was scarier. You only
get quick flashes of the death faces, and Samara's tape is filled
with quick flashes of disturbing images. The effect of this on me
was that I spent the next ten seconds or so trying to figure out
exactly what I had seen, with my mind filling in the blanks (and
what the mind can come up with is far scarier than any Hollywood
makeup job).
BTW, this is my first post here. I just saw The
Ring last night and it's definitely going to stick with me for a
long time. I'm enjoying everyone's posts and insights. Hello.

For me, it's The Ring. I first saw the Exorcist back when I was 12
and I couldn't get it out of my mind. I swore I would never watch it
again. Then last year I decided to watch it for a good scare. It
didn't have any kind of effect on me. Maybe in 16 years or so I can
watch The Ring again and not be paranoid about some creepy little
girl that is out to get me..lol

hmmm
the only other movie wo reverberate as much as my mind and give me
trouble sleeping was "The Changeling". The exocist didn't scare me
because I was not raised Christian, and the characters appeared to
impale themselves on their own christian prejudices as to good and
evil. After I saw the changeling I was alone in an old victorian
house in the woods. I sat down in my room and began to try to
channel spirits in my art. I went into a weird trance, it was kinda
scary.
"The Ring" scared me because it dealt with our modern
society and talk about fears that have been going through my head
for ages It also preyed upon my tender, overcaffinated
nerves.
